Company Directed to Pay Fine for One Call Law Violation

A company has been directed to pay a $10,000 civil penalty for violating a One Call Law that caused a ruptured gas line, leading to a fire and explosion.

The law requires 48 hours notice prior to digging starts so that utility lines can be marked. Both the order and the lawsuit were filed on Thursday, according to a press release from the Iowa Attorney General's Office.

The court ordered Mansions at Hemingway LLC to comply with the One Call statue, said the release. They were fined for violating the law and rupturing a gas line that caused a fire and explosion that damaged apartment units.

The state's lawsuit alleges Mansions at Hemingway LLLC excavated at Johnston apartment complex in July and August but hadn't notified the One Call either time.

The company's skid loader hit and damaged a natural gas pipeline that resulted in an explosion and fire, according to the lawsuit.
